Journalists/SM Marketers will visit this Tuesday

I’m happy to announce that we have, not one but TWO, dynamic journalist/bloggers who have generously volunteered to speak to us this Friday about their work. While they both do work in the area of social media and journalism, they present different perspectives on the field.

Karlijn van den Berg worked in the area of traditional advertising before switching to interactive media projects and writing. She is now an interactive media strategist and blogger who develops services for major brands and discusses the field in her blog. She will present some cases of her work. Karlijn is one of our own; she received her masters at the VU in communications.

Maaike Helmer is a model turned journalist, columnist and author. After gaining editorial experience, she began writing and has now been published in a large variety of magazines including Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Viva, Viva Mama, Achmea Health and Vriendin. In addition to her magazine writing, Maaike works in the area of health. She has written a book on diabetes self-care and has a blog on pinkribbon.nl.

Please take a look at their work and prepare some questions for Friday.

See you then!

Peter Kerkhof to visit the class Friday, be ready to interview!

Just a reminder that Peter Kerkhof will be coming to our Social Media Course this Friday, 23 September, for an interview. Dr. Kerkhof is Associate Professor, Dept. of Communication Science at the VU, Chair of the department and Special Professor Customer Media, Dept. of Communication Science at Universiteit van Amsterdam.

Dr. Kerkhofmaintains a blog and uses twitter regularly under the handle peterkerkhof. He uses social media to discuss and analyze current research and practice and his use of social media has brought increased exposure to his work and ideas, making him a thought leader in the space of social media, consumer online behavior and how corporations use social media to connect with customers in the Netherlands. He is currently on a sabbatical year from the VU to work on his research.

Therefore, we are particularly lucky to have Peter coming back to the VU especially to talk with us. Please have your questions ready for him about his experience using social media, the audience for his social media work and any other questions you might have.

See you Friday!
